I love the simplicity of Zen and I love the grace and power of Trees. Chestnuts are for me little nuggets of wisdom that one picks up in life. So by simplifying the complex we can live a more balanced, interesting and rewarding life.
My way of approaching and practicing Tai Chi is to move my mind into a state with minimal thoughts. I try to practice Tai Chi in a state of heightened awareness. This is achieved by making “moving into awareness” my primary goal for the whole day. When I go off into a dream, as soon as I’m aware I’ve done so, I’m already practicing awareness.

I also practice self-forgiveness. A wondering thought. A distracted mind. A stiff body on a given day. Lack of practice. All these things I try my best to overlook so that I am not overwhelmed by the thoughts these distractions could bring.

I tend to read far more books on the subjects of zen and awareness than books on Tai Chi and Qi Gong. For me to be in heightened awareness while practicing Tai Chi is very pleasurable and enjoyable. A transformational experience.

Beginner Tai Chi should be about continuity. I believe in making things as simple as possible so anyone can benefit from Tai Chi. Beginner classes should be easy, manageable and delivering the full experience of relaxation in movement.
